Zeiryuji was built by Toshitsune, the third lord of the Kaga domain, in 1663, the 50th anniversary of the death of Toshinaga Maeda, the second lord of the domain. Zuiryuji is known for its fortified moat reminiscent of a castle, its vast grounds (36,000 tsubo), and its main gate, zendo, and daikori (large storehouse).
