Located in the northwestern part of Kyushu, Nagasaki Prefecture is surrounded by the sea on its three sides and boasts rich nature and history. Since ancient times, the prefecture has prospered as a strategic point for maritime transportation. During the Edo period (1603-1867), when the country was closed to the outside world, Nagasaki served as the only window to the West through which trade was conducted. As such, it has a history of contributing greatly to Japan's development as a hub for the exchange of various cultures and technologies.

Nagasaki is not only known for its spectacular history; on August 9, 1945, the city of Nagasaki was hit by an atomic bomb and became a disaster area. The city also plays an important role in passing on its tragic past and prayers for peace to future generations.

Furthermore, Nagasaki is unique in having the largest number of islands in Japan. There are 594 islands, including the Goto Archipelago, Iki, and Tsushima, and they are filled with many attractions such as crystal clear waters, unspoiled nature, and fresh seafood.
